For our latest #GearCrush, we chatted drums with Bad Veins, an indie alt rock band out of Cincinnati, OH made up of Benjamin Davis and Jake Bonta.
Q. What gear are you crushing on?
The gear that I’m crushing on is definitely the Ludwig Vistalite Drumkit. I just love the idea of having a clear kit and for the lights from our show to be able to shine through.
Q. How would you use it?
I would smack the crap out of it with my sticks!
Q. What song of yours would you most like to hear it on?
All of the songs that call for HUGE MEGA BIG AWESOME DRUMS. Speaking of which, Ben just showed me this song he’s been working on called “When The Levee Breaks” and it would sound killer with some Vistalite’s.
Q. Is there a specific artist or song that first piqued your interest in this gear or sound?
John Bonham definitely piqued my interest in finding a better drum sound overall, and of course this specific kit. The sound that he had was so remarkable. From the first time I heard him I knew I wanted to play the drums, and play them loud.
Q. Who’s got the gear collection you most covet? It can be a studio, producer, band, whoever!
Currently I’m really into the minimalist approach when it comes to drum set-up. So anything that is in my rig, is something that is not only used, but used frequently. I’m not sure if I’m necessarily drooling over anyone’s gear collection at the moment, but anyone that is doing the minimalist thing I can appreciate.
